Tag Vierundneunzig (Day Ninety-Four)

Somehow, I neglected to mention that yesterday it was windy and raining nearly the entire time in Frankfurt. This was never really a problem until we got to the top of the Main Tower, where the wind was driving rain at a near ninety degree angle into our faces. It was still a great view, if you looked away from the rain.

Now that all of the leaves have fallen from the trees outside my windows, I can see through the branches and have a great view of the castle up on the hill, so long as it is not foggy outside. This morning, while working at my desk, it was surprisingly not foggy (just overcast), and, thus, I was rewarded with a pretty view.

There is but one more week remaining in my German study abroad trip. I am sad that my time here is coming to an end, but I think that one week from now, as I am getting onto the airplane, I will know that it is time to return to the United States. To be fair, the name “study abroad” is not a very accurate description, in my mind. I believe that, especially for students who go to a country in which their native tongue is not the primary language, the term “live abroad” is more accurate. After all, even with a full schedule, school is not all of life, and there is so much more to the experience that requires day-to-day interaction with a completely different culture.

This afternoon, my science fiction tutorial leader, Andree, and I had planned to meet at his house for a sci-fi movie-watching session. It was an awesome time. We watched Alien and Logan’s Run, as well as started Spaceballs, just for the comic relief. Pizza places here in Marburg, like the one we ordered from for dinner, have some very strange options. Some are normal, for instance the so called “Pizza Night” that I got, coming with pepperoni, salami, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Others are a bit more unusual, such as the “Pizza Black and White,” which only had mozzarella cheese and olives (presumably black). Then still others had very strange options, such as bananas and peppers or bananas, pineapples, and ham. It may not be our American-style thick, soft-crusted pizza, but it was still delicious.
