Today was relaxing. I did a lot of extra small things that have been put off for too long. For instance, I posted pictures from Weimar and Frankfurt , and got them off my camera, and cleaned up my camera card, and organised photos.
This evening I went with some friends to try something new. Auflauf is, at the most basic, a German casserole dish. Tongue-in-cheek, I figured that it must be very German, as there is no article for it on the English Wikipedia, but there is one on the German Wikipedia. Typically baked and served in small, individual casserole dishes, the basis for the auflauf dish is typically potatoes, noodles, or rice. I ordered the Auflauf-Schinken-Nudeln, which was a noodle-based auflauf with ham and cheese. It was amazing. Some of the others with me ordered other variations like a curry auflauf, a spinach auflauf with gnocchi, and paprika auflauf (which is not paprika as we know it, it is bell pepper). They were all very good. For those interested, the singular is der Auflauf, and the plural is die Aufläufe.
