This morning’s British literature class went well. It moves a lot slower than our tutorial, and at only once per week, seems like it might be a relatively slow class as a general rule. Between class and tutorial (also for Brit. Lit.) I took a trip to the post again to finally buy stamps, fixed my friend’s computer (which acquired some sort of German virus yesterday), and worked on/completed a decent amount of homework. Today, in our tutorial we continued talking about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
A few interesting things that came out of British literature class: The ratio of men to women was about 7 : 17! Yet the same ratio in my sci-fi class is much more in favour of the men. There may not be enough evidence there to draw solid conclusions, but one could certainly do a bit of stereotyping of literature genres from these numbers. The other intriguing thing, which I have just remembered came from the tutorial, not the class, is that each of the four of us in the tutorial for British literature will be preparing and delivering a forty-five minute-long presentation! Each of us will be covering a separate book in our presentation, and we can choose whatever topic, general or specific, over we wish to “lecture” for that period of time. Based on the great length, I was quite relieved to have free reign regarding the choice of topic. I will be covering The Fellowship of the Ring (huzzah!) but I can easily draw from the other books in the trilogy, and the series, because we can use secondary sources.
Tomorrow’s conversation class was cancelled for the week. My sci-fi tutorial for tomorrow was rescheduled, for this week, to Thursday so that the two sci-fi tutorial sessions are back to back (we plan on watching “First Contact” as well as working on some other topics, so this will give more time). Tonight and tomorrow have the special opportunity (given by me) for being “work ahead and get ahead” nights/days.
