Tag Sechs – Morgen (Day Six – Morning)

There were two fun things from this morning. First, before I went to class, I stopped by a nearby bakery (Müller Bäckerei) with the intentions of getting a croissant for our morning break. However, looking in the rack of baked goods, I noticed a cheese covered pretzel, which held my attention. Upon reaching the cashier, my mind was immediately changed by spotting something else – a Käsestange. http://t2.ftcdn.net/jpg/00/23/04/05/400_F_23040586_l0Nre1CUp5rN7hK73UZtXnqEfoEWS8z3.jpg
The name literally translates to “cheese rod/stick,” which is exactly what it is…a breadstick of sorts with cheese baked over it. Quite delicious. (Ken, it does not by any means beat Ralph’s delicious cheese rolls.)

The second fun thing is that apparently one of the most difficult German words for English speakers is “Wien.” This is the German name for Vienna. Possibly because of how much it looks like the English word “wine,” many English speakers tend to pronounce it as “vine.” (W’s are pronounced as v’s in German.) I know for myself I have made this mistake twice in the last two days. It is in fact pronounced like “veen.”
