This morning began with a walking tour of many areas, mostly centred on sections of the Berlin Wall. We not only saw portions of the wall, but also several of the foreign embassies and Potsdamer Square. This was designed to look a bit like Mt. Fuji in Japan.
For lunch, some friends and I decided to get a true taste of Germany and try a Berlin-original – currywurst. This fast-food dish is a hot pork sausage sliced and topped with curry ketchup (and sometimes more curry powder). Typically currywurst is served with French fries or a roll of bread, the latter being our case. It was quite delicious!
Our afternoon was comprised of a walking tour of a former Stasi prison in which political prisoners were kept. This included learning a lot of history about Berlin and the movement of power from the Russians to the East German government.
In the evening, Erin’s friend showed us a local sushi restaurant that had better prices and tastier sushi than any I have yet tried in the United States. Very much win!
