Tag Zehn (Day Ten)

Uneventful Sunday…for the most part. Slept in for a while, did some studying, drank a lot of tea, kicked around my room, and was generally…uneventful. Then the Great Flood of Deutschland started at about noon. Thunder. Lightning. Downpouring rain. This was not a huge deal, and I opened the curtains to my wall of windows to get a better view. About halfway through the afternoon, I stood up and found myself standing in a quarter inch of water. Utterly confused, I looked around and saw that water covered approximately two-thirds of my floor. Still confused, I began looking for a source. As my floor is not completely flat, water was prevented from flowing everywhere. The entire outside wall, with the windows, was quickly ruled out as there was no water any closer to it than about six inches. It was finally determined that the only actual wall that water was touching was the short inside wall opposite my door, which, as far as I knew, backed up to another room.

Despite the rain continuing throughout the afternoon, the water never continued to spread and, in fact, began to recede (theoretically from evaporation). In order to speed this process along, I opened the windows along the top of the wall of windows (short and long, about six inches in height and four feet in length, which slant open towards one) and turned on the radiator heater (situated below the windows along the outer wall, and about four inches off the floor). The intent was to evaporate water and give it a chance to escape the room without making the room very humid.

The rest of the day continued without much further ado. I talked with my mother via Skype, and I studied a huge list of German verbs for tomorrow.
