Conversation course this morning was okay. Much of the theme that we talked about was food and ordering in restaurants – something that most of us had a decent amount of experience with after being in Germany for eight and a half weeks (some of us more). I had a great time in sci-fi tutorial discussing the connections between the Star Trek movie that we had watched and Asimov’s “The Bicentennial Man.” This afternoon I read another awesome short story by Asimov called “Nightfall” (it was assigned reading for tomorrow’s sci-fi tutorial). I think this might be my favourite Asimov story yet, taking the place of my previous favourite – “Youth.” Both of them are definitely worth a read. “Nightfall” is set on a planet in a solar system with six suns. Therefore, the people are never without light. Yet every 2500 years, the suns and the single moon are aligned in such a way that there is a total solar eclipse, bringing darkness to a planet that otherwise is never dark. This story explores what happens when this rare event occurs.
